Some people do yoga, but I go to the workshop - In my freetime i like to just build stuff
I’ve always found it hard to throw away something that still has potential. That’s why I started building new things out of old ones.
AS A PROCESS-ORIENTED AND STRATEGIC DESIGNER, SOMETIMES IT’S NICE TO JUST BUILD SOMETHING
About
I build out of need and curiosity. When I’m missing something, such as a stool, a hanger, or a new bike rack, I start by looking at what I already have around me. I make a quick sketch and begin experimenting. For me, it’s about working with my hands and developing new skills, while giving discarded materials a second life as something useful and durable. Each project teaches me something new and often sparks the curiosity to explore a new tool or technique.
Wood working
I often use old wooden slats from discarded furniture in my projects. The wood might not be the best quality, but it still has plenty of life in it. By cutting, gluing, and oiling it, I can shape it into almost anything, such as stools, boxes, wall mounts, or shelves. It is satisfying to see something once considered waste turn into something sturdy, useful, and even nice to look at.
Hands-on restoration and maintenance of bicycles
If you asked someone who knows me well what I like to do, they would probably mention cycling or fixing bikes in their first sentence. And they would be right. I especially enjoy restoring older bikes; those built with real quality can last a lifetime, and even longer, with equal part elbow grease and care.
